SHIKHA’S JOURNEY, SIA’S STORY

It all started when I met Bithika, a weaver from Bengal. She spoke of her struggles how hard it was to keep going and yet what shone through was her zest for life and her determination to educate her children and uplift her family. When I visited her village, I found many more like her. Men and women, young and old, each with the same quiet resilience. Their hands carried skill, their hearts carried hope, and their eyes carried dreams of a better tomorrow.
Their struggles felt so real. I carried their words with me long after I left. They are so skilled with a craft which only a few now know, yet so often they remain unseen. In that moment, I felt as if this was my purpose — that I needed to work towards giving back to society. And what better blessing than to feel like I might be the chosen one to bring even a small difference to a few lives? To me, that would be the greatest honour.
Every other village I visited, every new district I went to, the names changed and the faces changed ,from Ansari in Kota to Rakib in Bhagalpur, from Tejshi bhai or Parul behen in Kutch to Selvaraj Nair in Andhra, to Lajo ji in Patiala. The list is endless. But the struggles and stories remained the same- of resilience, of artistry, of dreams carried forward with dignity against all odds.
These were not just weavers or printers or artisans. They were storytellers. Every motif, every thread, was a page from their lives, of laughter, of hardship, of pride, of love. I realised what they created was more than fabric. It was memory. It was legacy. It was identity.
SIA was born from this realisation. Not as a fashion brand, but as a platform where these stories could be seen, felt, and worn. For me, every saree, every suit, every creation we make is a way of saying: your story matters.
And I believe that’s why you’ll connect with SIA too. Because when you choose one of our pieces, you’re not just choosing clothing. You’re choosing to carry forward someone’s dream, to celebrate their artistry, and to remind yourself that behind every thread, there’s a soul.
This is what SIA means to me. And I hope, when you drape it, you feel it as much as I do.
With love and gratitude,
Shikha Sharma
